I recently did this and it was pretty simple. Just make sure you have
all the prerequisites installed (gcc, etc). and run the configure
--client script.. Compiles just fine
(you may run into the -lt bug .. add this to your Makefile)

We would like to monitor Gentoo boxes here at the office. Just checking
if anyone has run into some pitfalls regarding the installation. I
