Still a really odd issue though, personally I don't really know what
"make clean" does in terms of compilation etc. but maybe there is a
conflict somewhere that this resolves?
Either way once you do make clean etc. it works fine and I have had no
problems since (beyond the ones I created for myself)

I haven't been able to figure it out. It appears that running "make
clean; make; make install" (the "clean" is what does it) has resolved
the problem for the other people reporting it.
