my steps:
- send a status message "lämmcomm":
    bin/xymon 127.0.0.1 "status vwbox.vw.lan.l&auml;mmkomm green text"

- add "l&auml;mmkomm to group-only line in hosts.cfg:
   group-only apt|files|login|memory|trends|l&auml;mmkomm group-only-test

thank you. This works, but the data files have the "&auml;" in their 
names and if I click the status link I get "Status not available"?
