Alert Question - Holidays

How do people handle Holidays (and/or vacations) and the alerts?

I'm not a programmer but was wondering if it would be possible to add the
list of holidays to the hobbit-alert.cfg, have the system read that list,
and if the date matches, treat it like a Sunday.

Suggestions/Feedback/flames....
