OK, this is it. The ~hobbit/server/bin/hobbitping utility must be
installed as suid-root, i.e. permissions should be like this:

$ cd ~hobbit/server/bin
$ ls -l hobbitping
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root users 153698 May  7 14:18 hobbitping
