Hardware tests

This possibly doesn't belong in this list, but:
 
Are there any (NT based?) scripts that test for existence of a keyboard
& mouse?
 
I have a school who's pupils like cutting leads, and unplugging plugs;
so it would be good to know in advance of some problems.
